Crete is the largest and most populous Greek Island, and the southernmost region of all of Greece. Key surrounding Islands inlcude Chrysi, Gavdos, Gramvousa, Elafonisi and Spinalonga, with Gavdos being the southernmost point of Europe.

The island is divided into 4 main regional units: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion (capital city) and Lasithi.

There are three airports, two of which offer international flights (Heraklion and Chania).

Crete is well known for its clean and exotic beaches, its rich history and culture, a long list of notable people, exquisite food and local delicacies, a unique morphology, the venetian architecture in many areas and the hospitality of the locals.

Key points of interest include the beaches Elafonissi, Balos, Preveli and Vai, the ancient site of Knossos, the ruins on the island of Spinalonga, Samaria National Park and the Samaria Gorge, the Monastery of Preveli, the Venetian Harbour in Chania, the villages in Sfakia, Therisos and Myrthios and the Lefka Ori (White Mountains).
